Not kidding!

The real art of paint by numbers begins with the talented artist who creates an original work of art, strictly for the purpose of having it duplicated by the non-talented person. That's the real art.

There's not much difference between the art of paint by numbers and the art of impressionism. Whereas impressionism avoids realism, giving the impression of detail, painting by numbers attempts to obtain realism by laying one color next to the other. Both give the impression of detail by letting the eye do the blending when viewed from a distance. So one can see how closely the two art forms are related. The only difference between them is that the art of impressionism is done for ones self, while paint by numbers is done for the pleasure of others.
